May 7-8 summit agenda

Foreign Ministers of ASEAN met in Jakarta on Friday, May 6, 2011. At the meeting, they formulate the problems to be discussed by the leaders of tomorrow in the ASEAN Summit (Summit).

Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa after a meeting of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (MTT) said that there are some problems that become the focus of conversation tomorrow. These issues are discussed and deliberated at the AMM in advance before presented to the ASEAN summit which will be followed by the head of state.

"These problems will be followed up the meeting of heads of state tomorrow," he said.

Natalegawa explained, some of these problems is how to design a meeting of the East Asia Summit (EAS) which will be held in November. The meeting later was the first ASEAN meeting that included Russia and the United States. "Secretary-secretary of state also discussed the EAS in the future," he explained.

In the AMM meeting, said Natalegawa, discussed issues of conflict on the border of Cambodia and Thailand. This problem had previously been discussed at the informal meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers, foreign ministers on 22 February.

"ASEAN countries to support ASEAN's role in this matter," said Natalegawa.

In addition to these two problems, some problems are also discussed during the AMM. Natalegawa detailing several problems, among them the establishment of ASEAN institutions for reconciliation and peace, the South China Sea issues, establishment of ASEAN Community, and the problem of migrant workers.

All these issues will be discussed at the ASEAN summit meeting which will be followed by nine heads of state and a high delegation of Singapore. Prime Minister of Singapore reportedly unable to attend because his country was to hold elections.

AMM is one of a series of meetings ahead of ASEAN summit to be held on 7-8 May 2011. In addition to the AMM, also held meeting of the Council's Political and Security Community and ASEAN ASEAN Coordinating Council.
