In a military operation that was held the United States (U.S.), there is a special code to call the al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, that is Geronimo. Why was the name chosen?
Geronimo is a well known figure at the time of Indian independence struggle of the U.S.. He was born with the name Goyahkla and is the hero of the 19th century and was dubbed the Apache Geronimo by Mexican soldiers. But Geronimo declared himself enemy of the state after the murder of his family by Mexican troops.
After launching attacks in the southwestern region, Geronimo became legendary for his ability to avoid U.S. troops and Mexico for nearly 3 decades that makes it become one of America's greatest enemy. But eventually he was captured in 1886 and died in prison in 1909.
Since his death, the legacy Apache warlord has been increased from naughty to guerrilla freedom fighter, so it looks a comparison between the original iconic American and terrorism of the most hated. Many comments are ejected, including TIME's facebook page.
"The U.S. considers a terrorist Geronimo. The real difference between a terrorist and a freedom fighter is from which side he fought", said one reader.
But unfortunately, so far these reasons still a speculation. No one can prove the truth of the news.
Even so, a member of the Apache tribe that still remained to protest the use of these nicknames. Geronimo is a hero, not a terrorist.
"It's insulting and hurtful," said Vernon Petago, a member of Jicarillia Apache tribe in New Mexico. "What are they thinking? They use the name of the Apache leader who respected the most condemned terrorist in the world." he said.
Leader of Al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden, was shot dead in a joint military operation the United States (U.S.). In military operations, bin Laden got the code name 'Geronimo'. When he was declared dead, a voice, "Geronimo EKIA (Enemy Killed in Action)!"
